On the occasion of Chakchakur Festival (New Year of Kulung) Nepal Kirat Kulung Bhasa Sanskriti Utthan Sangh(NKKBSUS) organized a program on 15th Poush 2081 (30 Dec. 2024) to celebrate it in Dharan, Sunsari. The program was inaugurated by the Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of the Koshi Province, Hon. Rewati Raman Bhandari as a Chief Guest of the Program. On the program Central Vice Chairperson of NKKBSUS, Mr. Daulath Pidisai demanded to be recognized  to Kulung by the State as an indigenous peoples and the Chakchakur Festival be registered as a provinicial and national festival of the country. The Chief Guest urged that Kulung must be recognized as an indigenous peoples because they have own language, own culture, traditional land, distinct social structure and own history. Their demand for recognition as indigenous peoples is quite valid. They are not demanding a separate state. Malumdhoj Pidisai, Sunsari District Coordinator chaired the program. Chakchakur in Ilam

Nepal Kirat Kulung Bhasa Sanskriti Utthan Sangh (NKKBSUS), Ilam celebrated the festival Chakchakur for 2081 by organizing a grand program in Chulachili Rural Municipality. The program was inaugurated by the Chair of the Municipality. 

On the occasion, as a distinguished guest, Dr. Birkharaj Thoreppa, Secretary of the Central Committee of the NKKBSUS expressed the importance of the festival and urged to the participants to support the movement of Kulung’s identity and recognition of indigenous peoples. Chairman of the Chulachuli Rural Municipality, Dy Chair of the Municipality and Ward Chairmans of the municipality pledged to protect and promote the Chackchakur festival by allocating budgets from the upcoming fiscal year.

On the occasion local Kulung Youth Group performed a Chaar Shil (Kulung Cultural Dance).  The program was observed by many local non-Kulung community as well.

CHAKCHAKUR A New Year Celebrated

30 Dec. 2024, Kathmandu

Kulung’s new year Chakchakur 2081 simultaneously Yeledong-5085 was celebrated by organizing a program in Suntakhan Baluwa, Gokarneshwor, Kathmandu. On the program a book-let CHAKCHAKUR (Minari Dacham Chasum Lo Ningdong) was launched by the Chief Guest Federal Member of Parliament Hon. Santosh Chalise.

He ensured the Chakchakur, a new year of Kulung Community will be registered in the list of national festival of the country. The festival like Chakchakur is also a heritage of the country and the world.

On the program, Chandra Singh Kulung, Chairperson of the Central Committee of Nepal Kirat Kulung Bhasa Sanskriti Utthan Sangh described the importance and cultural values of the new year Chakchakur.

Chakchakur  is an annual festival of Kulung Community in which Kulung peoples gather, pray to the nature for their well-being and prosperity and enjoy with nutritious natural food, dance, exchanging love and happiness.

On the program a documentory about Dedam (Bigger Ritual) shoot in Sankhuwasabha and produced by Mahakulung Media Pvt. Ltd. for the interest of Kulung’s organization was also shown by the team of Mahakulung Television.

Talented Kulungs Honored

Nepal Kirat Kulung Bhasa Sanskriti Utthan Sangh (Kirat Kulu Guskham) honored various talented Kulung personalities on Tuesday 16 Jul 2024 by organizing a formal program in Suntakhan Baluwa, Kathmandu. On the program Mr. Janak Himar Kulung was honored on his succession to reach at the top of Mt. Everest on 13 May 2024. Likewise Gandharva Chheno was awarded for the last year’s achiever for the same. In addition Arjun Pidisai, holding first position and Suman Morokhu holding second position on Mt. Everest Merathun Race were awarded along with other successful runners Milan, Prakash, Kiran and Dilkala Kulung. On the occasion Biyanka Ngopocho was also honoured for her achievement received on South Asian under-19 Table Tennis Competition. The awards were given way by the Mayor of Gokarneshwor Municipality along with other distinguished guestes.

30th World Indigenous Day Celebrated

The Nepal Kirat Kulung Bhasa Sanskriti Utthan Sangh (NKKBSUS) celebrated the 30th World Indigenous Day on 9th August 2024 in Kathmandu. During the program, the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Cooperative, Hon. Bimal Thakuri, served as the Chief Guest. He inaugurated the event and pledged full support for the development of the Kulung people. Similarly, Murari Prasad Kuikel, Chairperson of Ward No. 3 of Gokarneshwor Municipality, also committed to working together with the Kulung community. Chandra Singh Kulung (Central Chair) and Samip Kulung (Student’s Chair) discussed the significance of World Indigenous Day. Kanchan Kulung and many other women and men were present at the event. The Kulung Mimchha (girls) also performed cultural dances, and Anita Kulung and a Khaling lady were honored on the program. Ghanashyam Rinho chaired the event, while Aakriti Kulung welcomed the participants, and the program was conducted by Bibas Kulung.
